diagnosed this year will live their normal life span. In 2005 it is anticipated that more than 1.3 million new cancer cases will be diagnosed. More than one out of every three Americans will eventually have cancer - that’s one in every two men and one in every three
I am asking you to join me today in support of the millions of people whose lives are affected by cancer. As a member of the Lance Armstrong Foundation’s Peloton Project, I am raising funds and awareness for the Foundation and their mission of enhancing the quality of life for those living with, through, and beyond cancer.
Founded in 1997 by cancer survivor and champion cyclist, Lance Armstrong, the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) seeks to promote the optimal physical, psychological, and social recovery and care of cancer survivors. In the United States alone it is estimated that there are more than 10 million cancer survivors, and it is estimated half of those
I accepted the challenge to raise money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation after my Uncle, David Allen, lost his fight in 2003 with a type of cancer that has taken seven other family members spanning three generations. Many other members of the family have went on to have genetic testing and taken the drastic steps required to stop this cancer short (Please view the In Honor Ofpage for more). Three other family members have lost their battle with other forms of cancer. Due to my love of cycling and great admiration for Lance’s ability to come back after nearly dying from the disease, as well as the generosity of the LAF shown to David in his most trying time, I decided to support one of the few groups that is dedicated to helping people deal with the emotional and physical aspects of having cancer. Last year I reached the White Jersey Level by raising $2525 with the help of friends and family. This year with your continued support I know I can reach my goal of $2500!
Fulfilling the many needs of cancer survivors is a tall order, but an organization that bears the name of the man who came back from cancer to be the only man in history to win six consecutive Tour de France victories can aim for nothing less. Your donation will have far reaching affects for those living with cancer and the future of cancer survivorship.
Now, I am asking you to join me as I help the Lance Armstrong Foundation in their efforts to improve the lives of cancer survivors. You can make an instant and secure online donation on the Foundation’s website or see how to donate by mail by clicking on the Donation rose.
On behalf of all those whose lives are affected by cancer, I thank you for your support – with your donation we can make a positive impact on the lives of all cancer survivors.
Sincerely,
Shane A. Moore (LAF Member #200095748)
P.S. Your donation DOES make a difference — 80% of the LAF’s annual budget goes directly towards cancer survivorship programs, grants, and mission related activities.

women. The odds of cancer affecting you or a loved one are not that improbable.
The LAF is working to identify and improve cancer survivor services and facilitate the delivery of those services—and a large dose of hope—to the patients, their families, and other loved ones touched by the disease. The money you donate to the Peloton Project will help the LAF continue to aid those affected by cancer through programs, advocacy, research and survivorship support.

Like other planets, Planet Cancer rotates regularly between the dark side of night and the brightness of day. All too often, we lose ourselves on the dark side, forgetting that where there is night, day must follow; and where there is life, there is the light of hope and laughter. Although we acknowledge and accept the night, we want to remind you of the lightness of day by recording on these pages the often entertaining, frequently bizarre and occasionally informative experiences and thoughts of your fellow natives on Planet Cancer.
The CCC is a group of cancer survivors, their families and friends that provide support through sharing experiences about treatment, life, and our other passions in life, high among them cycling. Our members range in age from young to old; focus on road riding, mountain biking, and triathlons; range in cycling experience from recreational to racer; and we've had a wide range of cancers from the common to the rare. We pride ourselves on our family like atmosphere; we share our joyous moments along with our sad ones, finding strength in each other. Join our peloton, jump to the front to speak out, or just hang in, get some support and encouragement, and enjoy the ride!
